  • What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is a type of injection lipolysis that uses microinjections of prepared formulas to dissolve excess fat deposits. Injected formulations may contain vitamins, drugs, extracts, homeopathic medications, and other ingredients.

    Is Mesotherapy safe?

Mesotherapy's claims have yet to be proven effective in my opinion-- the procedure has yet to undergo any rigorous peer-reviewed clinical studies that I am aware of. In addition, Mesotherapy's injected formulations are still awaiting standardization, which means that there is currently no way of knowing if a particular injection is safe. These and other concerns have not only prevented Mesotherapy from winning approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but also spurred the department to issue warnings about the safety of Mesotherapy and other injection lipolysis treatments.

It is important to note that serious side effects can also develop as a result of any Mesotherapy treatment. Necrosis (tissue death) is one of the most notable and devastating side effects, while permanent scarring is another unfortunate possibility. Some patients have also been known to develop permanent lumps under the skin due to treatment-related scarring.

What happens during a Mesotherapy session?

A Mesotherapy session begins with the application of an anesthetic or numbing cream to the skin's surface. The cream takes about thirty minutes to work, after which time the Mesotherapy injections are made. Most patients report feeling a mild "insect bite" stinging from each injection. Some bruising and redness may occur following the treatment, but should go away within a day or two.
